Salmonella outbreaks are one of the leading causes of food poisoning in the U.S. Each year, at least one to two million cases of food poisoning are reported in the U.S. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that a large number of these cases are due to raw chicken and eggs contaminated with Salmonella. Jennie-O Turkey has recalled 147,000 pounds of turkey products due to Salmonella contamination.

Jennie-O Foods and the National Turkey Federation are recalling 147,000 lbs of turkey products. The following items are subject to recall: Salmonella Infantis and Salmonella Infantis Enterica outbreak Products: Jennie-O Turkey Breast Salami Slim Jim Turkey Sausage Frozen Deli Turkey Product Turkey Breakfast Sausage Turkey Sausage Patties Ground Turkey Expiration Dates: 2/28/2016 – 3/24/2016 Number of units: 146,000 Locations: Seven (7) retail locations in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi and Texas.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. It is the leading cause of food poisoning in the United States and is found in undercooked, contaminated meats, poultry, eggs, milk, and produce, especially during summer months. Many U.S. produce companies and distributors have recalled 147,000 pounds of turkey products after Salmonella was found in samples from multiple plants.

According to the US Food Safety and Inspection Service, Jennie-O Turkey Store Sales, LLC has recalled about 147,000 pounds of raw ground turkey products that may be related to a salmonella outbreak (FSIS). Raw and ground turkey products were manufactured and delivered to shops throughout the country on September 11, 2018.

These are the items that have been recalled:

  • 1 pound packets of Jennie-O 93 percent lean | 7% fat ground turkey with expiry dates of 10/01/2018 and 10/02/2018.
  • Jennie-O taco seasoned ground turkey, one pound package, having an expiry date of 02/10/2018.
  • 1 pound packets of Jennie-O 85 percent lean/15 percent fat ground turkey with expiry dates until February 10, 2018.
  • Jennie-O Italian seasoned ground turkey, one pound package, having an expiry date of 02/10/2018.
  • 90 percent lean | 10% fat turkey in 1 pound packets with dates Rule 10/02/2018 is applicable.

If you bought these goods, the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service recommends that you throw them away or return them to the store where you bought them.
