Who Else Did Marvel Consider For Doctor Strange? It Wasn’t Benedict Always!

Benedict Cumberbatch fits the character of Doctor Strange, so ideally like this was his destined role, thinking that other actors were offered the role of Doctor Strange just doesn’t feel right.

Benedict was Marvel’s director Scott Derrickson’s ideal choice to play the role; however, there were some alleged rumors back in 2014 that Benedict had turned the offer down to some prior commitments, which were correct.

In an exclusive interview with MTV, Benedict came forward to say, “I’m doing a little play called Hamlet in London,” he also added saying, “So I don’t think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project.

He also said that It would be a shame if he misses an opportunity like this.

MARVEL LOOKING FOR POSSIBLE CANDIDATES

After that, Marvel board has to go back to searching for the suitable candidate to play Doctor Strange, as we know that Tom Hardy and Jared Leto were also linked to playing the role, it looked like Joaquin Phoenix was Marvel’s next choice to play Doctor Strange as he was said to be in final talks with the production.

In a 2014 interview, Phoenix came forward to say that his instincts if not match the character, and he turned down the role for Doctor Strange.

AFTER ANOTHER FAILED ATTEMPT

The third round of searching begun for the perfect fit, and this time some more names came up like Jared Leto, Jake Gyllenhaal, Matthew McConaughey, Ethan Hawke, Colin Farrell, and Ryan Gosling but nothing happened with these actors.

Another name that was bought up for the role around the same time was Keanu Reeves, he also came forward to say that he would have considered the part if it would have been offered to him, but sadly that never happened.

Marvel was set that they only want Benedict for the role of Doctor Strange, so to keep him in the cast, they changed their entire production schedule according to the actor, and here we are not at all surprised why Marvel wanted Benedict for the role.
