At 2024 Golden Globe, Joker Wins Two Awards, Including Best Actor

They did not introduce him as Joker when they brought him out, but oh well — Joaquin Phoenix still took home one of the top honors at the 2024 Golden Globes.

Including Best Actor, Best Director (Todd Phillips), Best Score (Hildur Gudnadóttir), and Best Picture, Joker was nominated for four Golden Globes awards. In addition to Phoenix’s triumph, Gudnadóttir was the first solo female artist to receive her guttural soundscape award.

In Joker, which has produced an astounding $1.06 billion worldwide, Phoenix plays comic Arthur Fleck, who eventually turns his fiery personality into a criminal symbol that resembles Batman’s archnemesis. Inspired by Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver and the King of Comedy, Phillips ‘ original story offered Phoenix an empty canvas to paint an unsettled and possibly misunderstood portrait trapped in the waters of economic strife.

Most of the Dark Knight thing is out the actor has taken a big swing. He officially lost 52 lbs to Fleck’s gaunt physics and converted Joker’s laugh into a character extension.

Phoenix is also the second actor to play the iconic DC Comics character in a Golden Globe. In 2009, for his role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger won the Best Actor in the Supporting Role Award. The same year, he will pick up Supporting Actor Oscar at the Academy Awards. Jack Nicholson was also nominated for the Golden Globe at Tim Burton’s 1989 but lost to a Dark Knight alum, Morgan Freeman, Driving Miss Daisy.

It is a victory if Joker and Phoenix, in turn, have made us all think so deeply. Joker has become the highest R-rated film ever; It has not only been a DC tale of one of his most respected and most hated people, Arthur Fleck, a hero immortalized by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight (2008).
