Mulan: Disney Is Reportedly Working On A Sequel Of The Live Action Movie

Disney is reportedly developing a Mulan sequel, even though the first movie has yet to hit theaters.

According to Daniel Richman

A sequel is in the early stages of development, with producers Chris Bender, Jason Reid, and Jake Wenner set to return. No writer, director, or cast member is officially associated with the project.

House of Mouse released a direct video sequel to their animated classic in 2004, after which Mulan and General Li Shang rescued the emperor’s three daughters across the country to meet their fiancé. However, the live-action Mulan sequel will not use this story, instead opting for an original script that has yet to be written.

However, whether the sequel goes through this will depend on Mulan’s national and international box office reception. Disney expected large numbers, especially in China, before the movie was delayed due to the coronavirus. The film will be released now on July 24, but it depends on how the virus spreads in the coming months.

Mulan is not just a live-action movie to be considered a sequel.

Disney is currently weighing options for an Aladdin sequel and has already ordered a spin-off focused on Prince Anders. It also has a Jungle Book sequel in progress.

Directed by Nikki Caro, Disney’s Mulan stars

  • Yifei Liu as Mulan
  • Donnie Yen as Commander Tung
  • Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan
  • Yoson An as Cheng Honghui
  • Gong Li as Xianniang
  • Jet Li as the Emperor

The film hit theaters on July 24.
