Minnesota officer booked for murdering
The former Minnesota policeman charged with murder for allegedly pressing his knee against George Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes has reportedly used the neck and upper body braces in at least seven other arrests.
Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder for the alleged murder of 44-year-old Floyd when he was arrested on May 25.
Reports claimed that 8 other cases are charged on the officer
In court documents, prosecutors listed a total of eight cases in which Chauvin was accused of using excessive restrictions to pacify an arrested suspect.
During one of the cases, on April 22, 2016, the prosecutor’s office reported that Chauvin “was restraining the arrested man by wrapping his arms around his neck with both hands and putting pressure on the man’s neck from both sides.”.
The man would have lost consciousness due to his alleged actions.
Prosecutors also described an incident on September 4, 2017, in which Chauvin allegedly placed a retainer on the neck of an underage boy, knocking him on his stomach and pinning him to the ground.
And on July 7, 2019, Chauvin allegedly kicked a drunk man in the stomach and then stuck his neck until he passed out. Prosecutors argued that Chauvin exercised restraint “beyond the point where such force was necessary for the circumstances.”
Minneapolis police officers filmed Floyd’s arrest on charges of using a counterfeit banknote in a Cub Foods supermarket. After the police pulled Floyd out of the car and handcuffed him, Chauvin pressed his knee to his neck for eight minutes. Floyd winced and said he couldn’t breathe before he passed out and died.
While the Hennepin County autopsy report said there was no evidence “to support a diagnosis of asphyxia or traumatic asphyxia.
Charges for the crime
Chauvin is also charged with third-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter with guilty negligence in connection with Floyd’s death. Three other inmates, Thomas Lane, 37, J. Alexander Kuang, 26, and To Tao, 34, were charged with aiding or abetting second-degree murder.
