Live-Action Peter Pan: Major Updates On Release Date, Casting, And Storyline

Just as Peter Pan promises never to grow, movies about him are proving age-resistant outside of Hollywood.

Disney continues to adapt its list of classic animated films with Peter Pan and Wendy, and the next live-action film has found its two stars. Family newcomers Evert Anderson and Alexander Moloney will play Wendy Darling and Peter Pan. Here’s what we know about the new movie, even if it will be released on Disney+.

About Peter and Wendy?

No official synopsis has been provided for the new iteration of the movie. However, there will be plenty of source material to draw inspiration from this project. The 1904 drama and J.M. in 1911. Based on Barry’s novel, the story of the green boy who refused to grow up and the Darling boys was transferred to Neverland.

In addition to the classic 1953 animated film and its 2002 follow-up Return to Neverland, there have been several film adaptations (Spielberg’s Hook, Pan of 2015, and Wendy’s 2024). Sources tell that Anderson (who is supposed to play the younger version of Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow and is the daughter of actress Miley Jovovich) will play Wendy. Meanwhile, Disney’s Disney Junior series Cloud will play Peter Pan himself. No other announcements have been made for the characters, including Tinker Bell and Captain Hook.

The deadline reported in April 2016 that Pete’s Dragon filmmaker David Lowy would direct and co-write the script with his collaborator on that film, Toby Halbrook. Jim Whitaker (Pete’s Dragon, A Wrinkle in Time) will produce the project.

When and where will the film be released?

Before Peter and Wendy leave, we have to wait a bit before learning. But Variety says that while there is speculation that the film will end on Disney +, sources say it is “expected” to be released in theaters.
