A film based on the character of Shang Chi has been in development since 2001, but the task did not begin in earnest on this project until 2018 when the Marvel Studios hired Callaham.

The process of shooting began back in February of 2024 on locations such as Australia as well as Los Angeles on the list.
As a part of phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set for a release date in the United States on the 7th of May, 2024. This comes as a surprise given the Corona Virus pandemic the whole world is stuck in.
