Chicago: Sunday Brunch Leaves Young Father Dead With 4 Injured

A shooting in Chicago killed a juvenile father and injured 4 others

A 31-year-old man eating breakfast with his fiancee and a three-week-old infant on Sunday was shot dead in Chicago’s Morgan Park, leaving four others wounded.

Family members told the officers that Devon Welch died at 1:30 pm. shot at Lumes Pancake House on the south side and police said the shooting was done purposely.

The other 3 victims are identified as 2 women and 1 man

A 43-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen and buttock, a 32-year-old woman was shot in the leg, and a 32-year-old man was shot in the thigh, police said, according to police. All three were in better condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center. A 30-year-old woman was in good health at Little Mary Company Hospital. She was injured in the leg.

The witnesses revealed the whole incidence

Witnesses said diners ate in a large white tent set up outside the restaurant to welcome diners during the coronavirus pandemic. Police said gunmen approached a white SUV and “several criminals” got out and opened fire.

Martin Puente, the restaurant’s chef, said the shooting looked like an assault rifle and that he later saw tables and chairs overturned in the tent along with the body of a dead man.

Witnesses recall hearing about 30 cartridges. No one was in custody on Sunday evening and no further information was available.
