The sequel was previously reported to be gearing up for a 2022 release date, but it’s unclear if the July 8 date was always on the studios’ minds.

The most pressing piece of Intel fans is waiting to find out who will be directing the film, as Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are not expected to return, and can instead tackle a Disney+ project. There is no shortage of female directors who can adopt Captain Marvel 2. The sequel is also expected to take place today, allowing the film to continue the Carol Danvers story with the rest of the MCU, while possibly filling in some gaps in the way.
