Captain Marvel 2 Gets A Summer 2024 Release Date

It took 11 years, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally released its first female-dominated solo movie early last year.

Disney previously announced new release dates until 2024 and it didn’t take long for Captain Marvel to guess who it might be. After much debate, the studio finally made it official: Captain Marvel 2 will hit theaters on July 8. 2024.

The date for Captain Marvel 2 comes when Marvel Studios announced a radical change to the Phase 4 release list.

Following Black Widow’s delay due to Coronavirus, the studio gave almost all Phase 4 movies a new date for launching. While this means MCU fans will have to wait even longer for Phase 4 to begin, at least Marvel also provided additional information by adding Captain Marvel 2 to the timeline. The sequel was previously reported to be gearing up for a 2024 release date, but it’s unclear if the July 8 date was always on the studios’ minds.

The sequel is expected to surface not long before there are more details. The most pressing piece of Intel fans is waiting to find out who will be directing the film, as Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are not expected to return, and can instead tackle a Disney+ project. There is no shortage of female directors who can adopt Captain Marvel 2. The sequel is also expected to take place today, allowing the film to continue the Carol Danvers story with the rest of the MCU, while possibly filling in some gaps in the way.
