A large part of Netflix U.K.’s BBC catalog is expected to be leaving by the end of March 2024.
This is when the BBC starts moving its services away from Amazon Prime and Netflix in the U.K. for its own BBC iPlayer and Britbox service.
It features a wide range of titles, including comedy series, documentaries, children’s series, and some dramas.
Comedy gigs like old classics such as Fawlty Towers, The Two Ronnies, and A Bit of Fry and Laurie are some of the highlights. New comedies like The Office, Extras, and That Mitchell and Webb Look will also come to an end.
BritBox
All are required to go to BritBox, a joint ITV and BBC subscription service with an additional fee.
We knew for some time that Netflix U.K. was coming with the Massive BBC purge. Although this is a large part, other dominant BBC shows still stay for at least a while. Blackadder, Doctor Who, Planet Earth, Sherlock, Peaky Blinders, In the Night, Doctor Foster, Duty Line, and many others will stay for the foreseeable future.
Last year, the’ most’ British shows were confirmed to be gradually withdrawn in favor of a new streaming service called BritBox.
This is a contentious problem now, given the dispute over permit fees, and it is easy to see where the controversy lies when the BBC refers to its removal of its titles as “coming home.” It has also been recorded that BritBox fails in its first year to attract subscribers.
