A toddler whose deceased body was discovered earlier is now identified by the investigators
The Harris County Forensic Institute confirmed on Sunday that the body of the child found in Houston’s Harbor last week belongs to Malia Bass.
The cause of death is yet to be disclosed
As reported earlier, on August 23, a runner found the body of a two-year-old boy swimming in Brace Byou, near 5200 Carrollton Street in southwestern Houston. The reason of death has not yet been discovered.
Malia was last seen playing on the playground at Sunset Crossing Apartments in southwest Houston on August 22.
The tod’s mother claimed that her daughter vanished in seconds
The baby’s mother, Sahara Erwin, told that she watched from a nearby window as Malia played on the apartment complex’s playground. Erwin said she looked away for a moment and when she looked back, her daughter was missing.
Few people tried to harm the mother and her fiance
On August 24, Erwin, who sought help from community activist Quannel X, was greeted by a crowd of angry community members who yelled at her. Some people attempted to injure her. Team Quannel X escorted Erwin and her boyfriend to the apartment while no one was injured.
Eventually, Quannel X chose not to introduce Erwin but said he would continue to help clarify the truth.
Erwin’s fiancé Travion Thompson stated in an emotional interview with KHOU 11 that he and Erwin had nothing to do with Malia’s disappearance.
The suspects were not officially revealed. However, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said he was “very confident” that there was a tough game.
