An elderly woman found dead
A 68-year-old grandmother from Arizona was beaten to death after visiting her daughter and grandchildren on Thursday. The police called it an “unprovoked attack.”
Charges for the crime
Jay Hungerford, 30, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 68-year-old Joan Sirhan, according to the Apache Junction Police Department.
Harshman said the police arrived at the scene around 5:30 pm. on Thursday and found Sirhan unconscious with “extensive injuries to the face and head.”
It is not clear how the officers found the suspect
Officers identified Hungerford as a suspect and arrested him, police said, but did not provide details on what led them to the suspect.
“Hungerford and Sirhan were not in touch with each other prior to the incident, and it appears that it was an unprovoked attack.
Hungerford was taken to the Pinal County Detention Center, where he is being held without bail pending prosecution.
The reason behind the murder is not revealed yet. The relation between the suspect and the victim is yet to be disclosed.
This is a developing story the officers are still investigating.
