Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney Plus is one of Marvel’s most exciting TV shows. It is the first time we have seen MCUs move properly on the small screen (sorry, Netflix’s Marvel shows), developing the accepted Marvel movie rule. We will have to wait a little longer to see it, as the production of Marvel’s Falcon and Winter Soldier has been interrupted by a coronavirus.
After the fall of Avengers: Endgame, this show will see the protagonists of Captain America Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) face new threats. Steve Rogers passed the shield over to Sam at the end of the Endgame.
The release date:
Falcon and Winter Soldier had a confirmed release date for August, with a specific day yet to be announced. That said, it is likely that this will be affected by COVID-19: production on the show has stopped since the virus spread and it is unknown where it may continue.
While most of the filming is expected to take place in Atlanta, the proposed filming for a week in Prague came to a halt when the Czech government-imposed travel restrictions. It is difficult to predict how long the release date will be delayed, as we do not know when the show will continue, but the severity of the outbreak in Europe means that we could indeed be very patient.
A few days after the news, House of Mouse announced that all upcoming Disney Plus Marvel shows will be delayed by the pandemic. Regardless of when the show finally arrives, there will be a total of six episodes. Expect them to be distributed every week on Fridays, like all existing Disney Plus prototypes.
Is there a trailer yet?
During the Super Bowl, Disney Plus released a 30-second teaser of Marvel’s first three shows on Disney Plus. Get more Falcon and Winter Soldier than Loki and WandaVision, including a volatile Bucky, shot that holds a gun to its head. Helmut Zemo, an extremely short Falcon shot with his new suit and the two characters greet each other in what looks like a kind of remote farm.
Who will be returning to the cast?
It’s no secret that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will see Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their roles in successful Marvel movies. But it seems a real surprise awaits us as many other well-known Marvel celebrities return for upcoming TV shows.
Emily VanCamp reappears as Agent 13 aka Sharon Carter – former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and nephew of Peggy Carter. The last time we saw her was during the events of Captain America: Civil War when she shared a kiss with her uncle Steve Rogers … but the less they say about it, the better. Falcon and The Winter Soldier will have to fill in the gaps from the civil war, explaining what Agent 13 has been doing since he left.
As explained, Daniel Brühl will return as Helmut Zemo, this time showing off his mask from the comics. And also, as discussed, Wyatt Russell is part of the role of John Walker – a military successor to Captain America, who is said to be the number one candidate that outside forces want to see collect the shield. Actors Adepero Oduye, Desmond Chiam, and Miki Ishikawa have been cast in unknown roles.
In February 2024, sources reported that Carl Lumbly (Alias) had joined the cast in an unknown role.
Kari Skogland (The Walking Dead and The Punisher) directs all the episodes with Spellman and Derek Kolstad (John Wick) as the main authors of the show.
How many episodes will be there?
The show will last six to seven episodes, which – like the Star Wars series The Mandalorian – will air weekly.
The plotline:
This series follows the successful Avengers: Endgame of 2019 and will be included in the duet after Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) transfers the Vibranium shield to Sam.
Excluding his efforts to become the new Captain America, it is the United States government that prefers the role of Wyatt Russell’s spokesman John Walker. Let’s not forget that Sam and Bucky are still fugitives after the events of the civil war.
Just because Sam and Bucky joined in with Steve’s decision doesn’t mean they’ll be better friends. A recent trailer saw Bucky point this out, suggesting they were helping each other for no other reason than to honor their mutual friend.
