A suspect from Illinois is booked for killing his girlfriend’s toddler daughter to death
An Illinois man is accused of beating his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter to death on Friday while babysitting with her. On Sunday, a judge ordered 23-year-old Terrence Space to remain in prison on $ 1 million bails. Space is charged with the first-degree murder of Lehlani Edwards, who, according to Cook County prosecutors, suffered an adrenal hemorrhage and a ruptured liver in addition to other internal injuries.
Space, who has been dating Edwards’ mother since February, was reportedly the only person to have seen Edwards at her Austin home from 6 pm until midnight on Friday when he called his girlfriend and said the baby would not wake up.
Space managed to escape from the scene before the officers arrived
Surveillance footage shows Edwards’ mother leaving her home, where she had been all evening, and enters Space’s home around midnight. The sources reported that after Edwards’ mother called emergency services, Space said he couldn’t be there when the cops arrived and ran out of the house through the back door.
Edwards was pronounced dead in hospital at 1:21 am. In addition to internal injuries, prosecutors said Edwards had bruises and bruises on his face, arms, and torso.
The suspect confessed his crime
Eventually, Space was arrested in Bolingbrook. He allegedly confessed to being the only person with Edwards but denied any involvement in his death.
The officers reported that Space did not appear in court on Sunday because it was hospitalized for Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which the Mayo Clinic describes as a rare and serious skin condition in which she has flu symptoms before developing a ‘ painful rash with blisters. Exacerbations are usually caused by a narcotics reaction.
