The British crime show is based on the 2015 novel by Harlan Coben, directed by Daniel O’Hara and Hannah Quinn, and was adapted by the screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst for TV. The first Stranger season took place on 30 January 2024.
Season 1 starts with multiple people being hit by an unknown, inspired young woman (Hannah John-Kamen). A man named Adam Price (Richard Armitage) discovers that his wife Corrine (Dervla Kirwan) had faked a pregnancy and probably stole the local soccer club’s income. She eventually fails Adam and starts her work, while DS Johanna Griffin (Siobhan Finneran) struggles with a different group of problems.
Meanwhile, a conspiracy is being reported by Johanna’s colleague John Katz (Paul Kaye) to obtain the necessary funds for paying his sick daughter’s health bills. Only, there is a huge twist that leaves John out of control and spirals from his mouth.

Cast Details:
The cast of season 2 includes:
- Richard Armitage as Adam Price
- Shaun Dooley as Doug Tripp
- Siobhan Finneran as Johanna Griffin
- Jacob Dudman as Thomas Price
- Misha Handley as Ryan Price
Plot Details:
Season 1 of the Stranger finishes with a clever wrap-up. Paul Kaye has perhaps the most volatile performance for the initial eight episodes as his character, John Katz, is trying to protect his sick daughter while covering his track for the sake of financial interests only to learn that his ex-wife had been poisoning his daughter all the time – the product of a mental health disorder called proxy Munchausen syndrome.
Apart from the fall of Katz, the final of the Stranger season 1 wraps up the mystery of the murder of Corinne. Following a violent altercation between Adam and a previous friend, the work of DS Johanna Griffin seems to be evident. The irony is that their great secret is connected to the basis for the work of the outsider.
And now that we know this stranger’s true identity, better known as Chrissy, her continued quest for justice can very well trigger Adam’s or — maybe more possibly — her father some problems. Expect Stranger season 2 on Netflix to feature John-Kamen’s title character with far more screen time.
