A mother killed her daughter and then stabbed herself too
The mother, who stabbed her six-year-old daughter to death earlier this month and then killed herself to death, her identity is revealed as 36-year-old Purkana Israel Mayo, according to officers.
Charges against the mother
The office said Mayo was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter, who family members identified as Atara.
Mayo’s parental rights were reportedly revoked and she was in the orphanage on August 19 when she apparently injured the little girl with a kitchen knife and then used the knife on herself.
The girl died due to the injuries whereas the mother is in stable condition now
The lawmakers answered an emergency call from someone at home and found Mayo and a girl with multiple stab wounds.
Both were taken to hospital, where Atara died of her injuries. At the time, Mayo was in critical but stable condition. She was arrested on Friday and sent to prison without bail, according to the prison documents. She is expected to appear in court on 21 September.
Police said there were three other adults and another child under 10 in the home at the time of the injury.
