Zack Snyder Wants Dark Knight Returns!!!
Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns is the most influential Batman story ever. For better or for worse, the series defined the protagonist of the modern era and can still trace his fingerprints in modern comics, games and movies. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises had elements of the story and of course, it was all retained in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Yesterday, Snyder invited fans to a live commentary for the aforementioned movie, which just celebrated its fourth birthday. During this, he spoke in detail about how The Dark Knight Returns told his story. While the image tells a very different story from the comic, the two share an older Bruce Wayne who is more extreme in the way he treats criminals. But the closest resemblance is found in the title fight between Batman and Superman. This is practically taken out of the climax of the comic, with the cloaked crusader’s mechanical suit, anti-Superman weaponry and Dial Miller bulge.
Dark Knight Returns as live-action!!
The movie has The Dark Knight Returns that many believe to be a real live-action adaptation, but Snyder doesn’t think so. During the conversation, he stated that he believed Batman v Superman would not signify an adaptation of Dark Knight Returns. And he’s right not to have many comic book elements appear, such as bats coming out of retirement, the rise of the Mutant Band, and Bruce leading an army of vigilantes on horseback during social unrest. And it will feature it entirely as live-action.
Of course, there has previously been an adaptation of a direct return from Dark Knight. In 2012 and 2013, Warner Bros. released a two-part animated movie, which is very good. Some talented people decided to choose Robkop, Peter Weller as Batman, and they did a wonderful job. It is not a perfect movie, but it correctly captures the important parts of the story. And until I see a full version of live-action soon, if they start doing it, I won’t have a day to watch it, respectively.
