A 51-year-old man faced jail punishment after he confessed to shooting a neighbor who was carrying a bulletproof jacket throughout a night of drinking.
The 51-year-old Charles Ferris declared guilty to aggravated attack and possession of a gun by a particular person.
He was convicted to 27 days in the Benton County Jail and five years of probation, according to a source.
Ferris and 36 years old Christopher Hicks were both accused in Benton County Circuit Court with the aggravated attack in May 2019.
Ferris was hired to protect an “asset.”
According to a probable cause affidavit, Ferris reported a Benton County sheriff’s office at the hospital he was appointed to guard an “asset,” who gave him $200 to follow him into the woods at Hobbs State Park.
Ferris told the two went out into the forests and met another man about 10 p.m., and a gunfight broke out.
Though, Ferris’ wife came at the hospital shortly, saying detectives that her husband and Hicks shot each other while drinking on the back entrance of their house on Deer Run Lane.
Ferris recalled his initial story
According to the affidavit, Ferris later recalled his starting story to police, stating he made it up to keep Hicks from getting in difficulty.
Ferris told that he had been carrying the vest while he asked Hicks to shoot him with a .22-caliber semi-automatic gun.
According to the affidavit, the jacket stopped the shot, but still pain and gave a mark on his chest. Ferris, now pissed because he was hurting from the bullet, unloaded the clip into Christopher’s back.
Hicks’ next court appearance is slated for Feb. 13 in Benton County.
