A South Dakota man was charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday, months after he shot his girlfriend and faked her death to look like a suicide
The investigators said in a statement that an investigation showed 25-year-old Dion Bordeaux shot and killed 22-year-old Jeanette Jumping Eagle at the Microtel Inn and Suites on New Year’s Day. Eagle received a single gunshot wound to the head and the police were initially unsure if she had committed suicide.
Authorities do not disclose how the crime scene was staged as a suicide.
Charges for the crime
Jumping eagle was with Bordeaux and another man at the time of the shooting. Police initially arrested Bordeaux with an unexecuted aggravated assault warrant. Records from the Department of Correction indicate that Bordeaux was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August, with a suspended sentence of seven years for this charge. It is still located in the Rapid City Community Work Center, a maximum-security prison.
Paulina claimed that Bordeaux killed her sister
Jumping Eagle’s sister, Paulina Ghost, told the Journal that shortly before her death, Jumping Eagle and the father of her three children broke up and started dating Bordeaux. The ghost said he believed Bordeaux shot her sister after discovering the messages she had sent about returning from her son’s father.
Another Jumping Eagle sister, Ashley Bagola, told that Bordeaux may have killed the mother of three for telling close friends about her abuse in Bordeaux because she wanted to go back to her children’s father.
Officials have issued an arrest warrant for Bordeaux in connection with the murder of the Leaping Eagle. The prosecutor’s office asked the judge to transfer him to Pennington County Jail so he could appear in court for his first appearance.
