The main reason for the show not being renewed even after being so successful and popular amongst the audience can be due to the allegations of sexual harassment made on Kevin Spacey in 2017.
Being the protagonist of the show, the makers cannot cast him in any further seasons, which is heartbreaking news; the audience may not even like him being cast in the show after some series allegation, and this will on cost the makers as the viewer credibility will decline.
However, Netflix has supported the show immensely and would like to work with the makers again on a new project with an original cast; the show has given Netflix some of the best ratings.
